September / October / November 2019 Library Closed Monday, September 2 Labor Day Monday, November 11 Veterans Day Thursday, November 28 Thanksgiving Beginning in October 2019 and continuing to September 2020, the library has been approved to have a Guiding Ohio Online trainer on a full-time basis thanks to an LSTA (Library Services & Technology) grant. The purpose of this grant is to have a trainer at the library to prepare rural Ohioans for the digital age. Mack Hersman will be available to troubleshoot your technology issues, to assist you in learning a new technology, and to teach upcoming trends in technology. Mack is also available for outreach in the community. If any companies want employees to learn new technologies or have a refresher on existing programs, Guiding Ohio Online is available at the library to help. Mack is also available to speak to civic organizations. Learn about Trap-Neuter-Return for Stray & Feral Cats Tuesday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m., learn about TNR, the humane and effective approach for stray and feral cats. Scientific studies show that TNR improves the lives of feral cats, improves the relationship with the people who live near them, and decreases the size of colonies over time. Margaret McCain, a volunteer with shelter experience will present this informational program. Free Paper Shredding Event Saturday, September 28 10:00 a.m. to noon A free paper shredding event will be offered in the library’s rear parking lot on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Participants may bring 5 standard garbage bags or boxes of personal documents. Please enter the parking lot from Walnut street. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Thank You for a Wonderful Summer! We had a very successful summer at the library. Over 448 children, tweens and teens, and adults registered to participate in the reading portion of the program. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for their financial support as well as Beaver Falls Ponderosa, Chipotle, and OH Wow! for providing coupons for the readers. Thanks to Columbiana County Ohio State Extension, Columbiana County Master Gardeners, 5FRS, Krista Figley, Head Start, Sally Kurjan, and Paul Wetzl who offered programs. Harry Potter Magic Show Tuesday, October 15 at 6:00 p.m. Experience the magic of the Harry Potter books with Magician Tom Phoolery. All ages are welcome to attend. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. History of World War II with author Tim Carroll Tuesday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. This World War II program will thoroughly discuss U.S. involvement in World War II with over one hundred rare photos and political cartoons. Fascinating aspects of the war including the drafting of fathers, the Boy Scout draft, and more will be discussed. AARP Prepare to Care Monday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m. Are you a caregiver or do you anticipate caring for a loved one in the future? No matter where you are in your caregiving journey, this program presented by Terry Supancic of AARP, will provide you with information to use as a caregiver. The program will also give you the chance to connect with other caregivers.
