The library now has two new catalog computers. One of the
computers is located near the adult nonfiction and fiction
sections. The other computer is located close to the children's
and adult fiction areas. Patrons can search these computers to
find out if a particular item is owned by the library, the call number of the
item, and whether or not the item is checked out. If you have

desk.
Thanks to a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and matching
funds from the Friends of the Library, the library has two new desktop
computers. The computers have Windows 7 operating system and such
programs as Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and more.
Video Games Available at the
Library

Did you know the library has video games for Wii, XBOX 360, AND Playstation
3 that can be checked out with your library card? Just like DVDs,
you may check out five games on your card for three days. These
games are leased so the titles change regularly. The titles that
are available can be searched on the library's catalog.
The library now has some of the latest audiobooks available in a newer
format...MP3 CDs. You can listen to an audiobook without changing
multiple discs. With the MP3 format, over 20 hours of
listening is on 2 CDs. These discs will play in any CD/DVD player that
supports MP3. Ask for these titles today.
Do you need to create or update your resume? The library now
has WinWay Resume Deluxe available on the study room computer and on one of
the laptops. The program is very user friendly, and includes
sample resumes and themes for virtually every profession. The
program also includes such features as a cover letter creator, videos of job
interviews, and more. If you are interested in using this new
program, ask for more details at the circulation desk.
The library now subscribes to a new database about the United States and
Territories called A to Z the USA. The database provides State,
County, and City information as well as maps, photographs, and
more. You can access this site at the library or at home by clicking here
and typing in your library barcode number which is found on the back of your
library card in the box that says "Library Code." You do not
need a username or password.

Thanks to a grant from the Nash Memorial Foundation, the
East Palestine Memorial Public Library now has five laptop computers that
the public can use in the building. The laptops connect to the
Internet with the wireless service that the library has and printing from
them will be possible. Office 2007 has been loaded on the
machines. The policy for use will be the same as our present
workstations with this exception, while you are using it, the laptop will be
checked out to you on your library card as you are responsible for it until
it is checked in again.
FAFSA forms will no longer be available at libraries for
mass distribution. Interested students can telephone 1-800-394-7084
for a traditional form, apply, and mail the paperwork. The form can
also be downloaded at www.FSAPubs.org.

From home, school, and office computer, you can search our
catalog. To access the catalog, click

the bottom of the screen for various choices. When typing in an author's
name be sure to type the last name first.
The East Palestine Memorial Public Library now provides a free
internet access point or "hotspot" for patrons using their own
laptop computers, PDAs or other wireless capable devices in the library building
during the hours the library is open. Patrons can use the wireless access
to surf the Internet, send and receive web-based email, access the library
research databases, or work on personal files and software. The library
makes the service available; users are responsible for making use of the service

New rates for copies and fax service are in effect at the library. At the
circulation desk, these prices are charged for copies: color 25¢ each;
8½ x 11 and 8½ x14 black & white 15¢ each; 11 x 17 black &
white 20¢ each. The coin copier is 10¢ for 8 ½ x 11 black &
white copy. Fax service is: 800 and 888 numbers are $1.00 for the
first page and 50¢ for each additional page; long distance numbers in
the U.S.A. are $2.00 for the first page and 50¢ for each additional
page; international long distance numbers are $15.00 for the first page

If you search the library catalog for an item and come up short,
you should try Interlibrary Loan. The Interlibrary Loan Librarian will
search SEO (Serving Every Ohioan) Library Center and Ohio Libraries
Share: MORE (these are two intrastate interlibrary loan cooperatives we use
to find special items for our patrons] for the item that you requested.
When found, the item will be requested and be shipped to our library for
checkout by the patron. When finished the patron returns the item to the
library, where it is shipped back to the owning library. From the patron's
perspective it's just that easy. No fee is charged for this personal
service at our library. We usually track down just what you

KnowItNow is a live online information service provided free of charge for
the citizens of Ohio by the State Library of Ohio and your local public

Professional librarians are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to
answer your reference questions and assist you in finding information.
Once logged on with your Ohio zip code, you and a librarian engage in a
"chat" session. The librarian "pushes" high quality,
authoritative online resources to your screen. You can watch and
participate as librarians skillfully navigate the Internet to find precise
answers to your questions. At the conclusion of each KnowItNow session,
you will receive a complete transcript of your session via email including links
to all online resources shared during that session.
KnowItNow is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. General
Reference assistance is available during all hours. Specialists in the
subjects of business, foreign languages, genealogy, government information,
health, history, law, literature, music, art, science, technology, and the
social sciences are available from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday - Saturday. Questions in these specialties may be asked anytime but
may be referred to specialists for next day response.
Tutoring service from online professional tutors is available from 2 pm to 10
pm seven days a week. Some questions may be referred to the online tutors
during this time.

The Friends of the Library are selling copies of R. Baird Stewart's book "Downtown" East Palestine As Some Remember It and As It Is Today for
$5.
The books are available at the circulation desk.
The library has three Internet computers. One of these computers also
has PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Those with a current library card with no fees or fines owed may sign up to use the internet computers in half-hour blocks of time.
The word processing computer at the library has been updated. Programs such as WordPerfect, Word, Publisher, and Excel are available.
The cost for printing is 15 cents per page. Data can also be saved to a disk. To sign up use this computer, ask at the circulation desk.
Do you have a document that you would like to have laminated? Lamination service is now available at the East Palestine Library. The cost to laminate an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper is $1.00. Maximum width allowed for the library's machine is 12 inches. The minimum charge for any lamination is $1.00. Ask about this service.
The library is pleased to offer the "Travel Tote" for children. The totes are great if you are going on vacation, visiting Grandma's house, or just staying home. Each tote will have a theme and contain 5 to 10 items. When possible it will contain books, audiobooks, and books and read-along cassettes. Totes can be borrowed for two weeks. Applications for the Golden Buckeye Card are now available at the
library. Ohio citizens ages 60 and over are eligible and must bring proof
of their date of birth (driver's license, state identification card, or birth
certificate) when applying for the card. Those who are permanently
disabled ages 18 to 59 must bring one of the following documents: a
Medicare card, SSDI or SSI letter, a document from Workers' Compensation or MR/DD,
or any document from a Federal or State retirement system. For more
