In the November 15, 2009 issue of Library Journal, the East Palestine Memorial Public Library received 3 stars out of 5 for public library services including internet usage, program attendance, circulation, and library visits.   A total of 33 Ohio libraries made this list.   Columbiana Public Library was the only other library to appear on the list from Columbiana County.

Do you need to create or update your resume?   The library now has WinWay Resume Deluxe available on the study room computer and on one of the laptops.   The program is very user friendly, and includes sample resumes and themes for virtually every profession.   The program also includes such features as a cover letter creator, videos of job interviews, and more.   If you are interested in using this new program, ask for more details at the circulation desk.

Be sure to check out our new database.  Global Road Warrior 175 Country Database provides a broad spectrum of information ranging from customs, government, maps, and weather for 175 countries.   You can access this site at the library or at home by clicking on here and typing in your library barcode number which is found on the back of your library card.

Thanks to a grant from the Nash Memorial Foundation, the East Palestine Memorial Public Library now has five laptop computers that the public can use in the building.  The laptops connect to the Internet with the wireless service that the library has and printing from them will be possible.  Office 2007 has been loaded on the machines.  The policy for use will be the same as our present workstations with this exception, while you are using it, the laptop will be checked out to you on your library card as you are responsible for it until it is checked in again.

FAFSA forms will no longer be available at libraries for mass distribution.  Interested students can telephone 1-800-394-7084 for a traditional form, apply, and mail the paperwork.  The form can also be downloaded at www.FSAPubs.org.  Electronic filing is possible online at the website.  For help, please inquire at the circulation desk.

From home, school, and office computer, you can search our catalog.  To access the catalog, click here.  You can reserve items with this system.  Follow the tabs on the bottom of the screen for various choices.  When typing in an author's name be sure to type the last name first.

The East Palestine Memorial Public Library now provides a free internet access point or "hotspot"  for patrons using their own laptop computers, PDAs or other wireless capable devices in the library building during the hours the library is open.  Patrons can use the wireless access to surf the Internet, send and receive web-based email, access the library research databases, or work on personal files and software.  The library makes the service available; users are responsible for making use of the service themselves.  Staff does not assist or instruct in wireless usage. Click here for more information about our wireless internet access policy.

If you search the library catalog for an item and come up short, you should try Interlibrary Loan.  The Interlibrary Loan Librarian will search SEO (Serving Every Ohioan) Library Center and Ohio Libraries Share: MORE (these are two intrastate interlibrary loan cooperatives we use to find special items for our patrons] for the item that you requested.  When found, the item will be requested and be shipped to our library for checkout by the patron.  When finished the patron returns the item to the library, where it is shipped back to the owning library.  From the patron's perspective it's just that easy.  No fee is charged for this personal service at our library.   We usually track down just what you need.   Find out firsthand.
